From today, the parking system in Budapest will be completely overhauled
Instead of the previous complicated 27 parking zones, the Municipality of Budapest is introducing a unified parking system, which will also increase parking fees. The new regulation came into force on 5 September, from this morning.
At the end of June, the Municipal Assembly of Budapest adopted a new parking regulation with 22 votes in favour and 7 against, under which four zones will be designated in the capital:
- Zone A will cost 600 forints per hour to park and will be charged between 8 am and 10 pm;
- Zone B will charge 450 forints per hour between 8 am and 8 pm;
- in zone C, 300 forints between 8 am and 6 pm;
- in zone D, 200 forints between 8 am and 6 pm.
Previously, parking charges ranged from 175 to 525 forints.
Parking is limited to three hours in zones A, B and C and to three hours in zone D. A map of Budapest, divided into zones:

As part of the new parking system, uniform information signs will also be displayed on the streets to make clear the characteristics of each parking zone. In addition, the area of the parking zones will be increased by around 10 percent.

Expansion of the pay zone
It will be worth being careful when driving in the capital, as there will be some changes that were not indicated on the previously published map. For example, in District II, the pay zone may be extended from November. Zsuzsanna Nagy, head of the parking department of the mayor’s office, said that in Pasarét, the area bordered by Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor-Lotz Károly utca-Pasaréti út-Gábor Áron utca will be the area where parking will be charged, while the area outside the Rózsadomb will be the new boundary between Gábor Áron utca-Pusztaszeri út-Alsó Zöldmáli út, and the area in front of Szépvölgyi út 52-66 will also be part of the extension.
The situation is also changing in Zugló as far as paid parking is concerned. The area of the triangle closed by Fogarasi út-Nagy Lajos király útja-Kerepesi út will be fully paid from autumn, said Judit Záhonyi, deputy head of the parking division in Zugló. The exact date of the introduction is not yet known.
In Kőbánya, parking machines have so far had to be fed with coins in the Gyakorló Street residential area and in the residential area near Üllői út, but this will not remain the case for long.

A and C have the same colour, I can’t differenciate. Can you use a different colour for each area?
Please, can you use green colour for the C Zone and Yellow for the D zone? In that map the A and C zones are the same colour and D zone is not recognizable. I didn’t find this map anywhere else. It’s very important to differentiate the zones. Please, can you publish another map with different colours? I can’t go by car untill this is clearified.
Dear Boing, the map is from the site of the Budapest Council, it’s not our own creation. We believe the colours are easily distinguishable.
